FOR PREACHERS. (excerpts from a Homiletics class taught by Bennie Hill) The greatest miracle that God can do today, observed Leonard Ravenhill, “is to take an unholy man out of an unholy world and make him holy and then put him back in an unholy world and keep him there.”
SOME HELPFUL ADVICE FOR PREACHERS: “in promulgating your esoteric cogitations or articulating your superficial sentimentalities, and amicable philosophical or psychological observations, beware of platitudinous ponderosity. Let your conversational communications possess a compacted conciseness, a clarified comprehensibility, a coalescent cogency, and a concatenated consistency. Eschew obfuscation and all conglomerations of flatulent garrulity, jejune babblement, and asinine affectations. Let your extemporaneous descantings and unpremeditated expatiations have intelligibilty and voracious vivacity without rodomontade or thrasonical bombast. Sedulously avoid all polysyllabic profundity, pompous prolificacy, and vain verbosity. IN SHORT “BE BRIEF AND DON’T USE BIG WORDS.”

KENTUCKY/INDIANA CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP week is now history. And what a blessing it was to each in attendance! The topic dealt with History (Past); Reality (Present); Prophecy (Future). The first day’s talks dealt with Israel – the wife of God. The second day dealt with the Church – the Bride of Christ and the last day’s theme was From Here to Eternity. Every talk was time, scriptural, and inspirational. Each day’s lunch was filling and delicious with a huge variety of salads and desserts. A special “Thank You” to each of the ladies from our churches who provided the food and helped in preparing and serving the meals.
The week got off to a great start Monday night as the Music Week Campers did an excellent job in presenting their concert in song. There were 240 in attendance that night. And we extend a special “Thank You” to Joan Marsh who did an excellent job as the chief conductor.
The week truly lived up to its title as a “Fellowship Week!” What sweet fellowship was had as brothers and sisters in the Lord looked into the Word together, raised their voices in beautiful harmony, and feasted around the table. A big “Thank You” to all who served on the committee, all who took part and all who attended.
UPDATE ON BRO. ROBERT GARRETT: It was doubtful that Bro. Garrett would be able to speak on Tuesday morning due to pain he was experiencing. But he did come and presented a most timely study of the “Uplifted Hand” and “God’s Oath to David.” The following week he had back surgery and it was reported (Brenda Garrett) that “he was doing well and the pain he was experiencing before surgery was gone. He walked well and was sitting in a chair for lunch.” We praise the Lord for the many prayer warriors who held him up before the Lord in prayer.
