Colossians 2:5, “For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.”
The Apostle Paul continues in verse 5 to seek to encourage the Christians in the city of Colossae. Paul knew he could not be there in person due to his imprisonment. Although he could not be with them to encourage the, he wrote this letter. His instruction and encouragement assured the Colossians off his personal support and genuine affection by reminding them, “I am with you in spirit.” (2:5; cf. 1 Cor. 5:3-5)
Ultimately, the object of their faith and their positional status “in Christ” give him confidence and serve as the basis of their assurance. In Christ we have the full assurance of our security through His victory; and therefore, we can be people of encouragement to one another as we stand firm in our faith.
In conclusion, the greatest joy in the Christian life is not found in the comfort and conveniences offered in the local church; it is, rather found in a life of sacrifice and service to our Savior and Lord.
