Colossians 2:4 “I Say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.”

If it is our aim, as was the Apostle Paul, to strengthen and encourage the church, we must also instruct them against the intrusion of false teachers and false doctrine.  Remember, Satan is alive and well on planet earth.  He’s out there, working overtime to deceive the people of God. Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

If we are affirmed in our faith and anchored in the Word of God, we can avoid being involved in the ways of the world and the risk of deception.  We must know what we believe and why.  By doing so, we can escape the wiles of the devil. We can recognize false teachers and teachings. Many of the false teachers out there are very subtle in their deceiving.

We must realize, even the cults and false teachers and religions out there do teach some truth. But the tend to twist the truth and subvert it.  They hope you will accept their teaching, hook, line and sinker. They hope you will not check the Word of God.  We can also help others in the same way. We must be like the Bereans in regards to Paul’s teaching in Acts 17:11, where we read, “Now these were mor noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”

Paul believed that the best defense against deception is discipleship. We must admonish believers to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. Let’s do the same. Let’s encourage each other and stand upon the word of God so that we will not be deceived and grow in the grace of Jesus.
