Dear Friends, Family, and Community,
Today, with hearts full of gratitude and faith, we gather for the final service of Portland Church of Christ. For nearly 150 years, this church has been a home for worship, fellowship, and the teaching of God’s Word. Generations have walked through these doors—some to be baptized, some to be married, and many to grow in their faith.
However, as seasons change, so do the needs of a church. Over the years, our numbers have gently declined, and we have prayerfully considered what it means to be good stewards of God’s resources. After much reflection, we have made the difficult but faithful decision to close our doors—not because of financial hardship, but because we believe God is calling us to release this place into new hands for His glory.
But this is not a goodbye to God’s work in this community! We are overjoyed to announce that our church building will continue to be used for ministry! We are entrusting it to The Cup of Joy, a growing church with a heart for spreading the Gospel in Portland. The same walls that have echoed with our prayers will soon resound with new voices lifting up the name of Jesus.
What’s next?
Though Portland Church of Christ as we know it will come to an end, the Church itself is not a building—it is the people. Each of us will continue to serve, worship, and spread the love of Christ wherever He leads.
To all who have been part of this journey—whether for a season or a lifetime—thank you. Your faithfulness, love, and prayers have made an eternal impact. We invite you to join us today as we give thanks, celebrate God’s faithfulness, and step forward in trust for what He has in store.
“To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” – Ephesians 3:21
With love and gratitude,
The Members of Portland Church of Christ
