Woodland Bible Camp
Senior Citizen Week was held at Woodland Bible Camp Sept. 9-13. Adding up who was there with various staying length, I was told there were 71. Those of us who attended the entire week were blessed with very good speakers – Chapel in the morning and Church at night. Each one was assigned a chapter from 1st or 2nd Thessalonians and they all did a fine job of presenting their thoughts. Wonderful fellowship with old and new friends. The cooks and kitchen staff outdid themselves with really good food 3 times a day. Group singing was so enjoyable with various song leaders each day. We had attendees from as close as Linton/Dugger and as far away as Louisiana. The fellowship was / is very enjoyable. We all were laughing after Wednesday night church with Kayla (Smith) Hale’s game. You won’t know what you are missing until you attend a week and realize what a blessing the week gives us.
Goin’ Fishing Ministries Donations should be sent to P O Box 2063 Denham Springs, LA 70726.
Please continue to pray for the Christians in Ukraine. Those that we know have so far been safe, though many of them lost their homes and had to relocate. Those remaining continue to hold church services where possible and spread the Word of God and help others with food and supplies as they are able. Missile attacks continue to cause widespread damage to the electrical grid as well as damaging buildings and killing citizens. For many, no electricity means no heat. This is a very serious problem as the cold weather months have arrived. Please pray for an ending of this terrible war.
From Bro. Mike Abbott: (Sent on 9/25/2024.) Please pray for Kostya Tsepin. Bro. Kostya and his wife, Oksana, minister in Kramatorsk, Ukraine. He is having emergency surgery for a gastric perforation this morning. I do not have all the details yet as to what caused the perforation, but I do not think it is war related. However, any medical issue is made more difficult due to the war. Bro. Kostya has been very helpful to GFM on past mission trips. Oksana tells me that a second surgery will be necessary after he heals from this surgery. I will know more about his condition soon.
Thanks, Bro. Mike Abbott
Keep in prayer the situation in Israel. This is God’s chosen land for his Chosen People.
Be in prayer for those in the USA that are making it dangerous for the Jews in this country. There were more than 220,000 pro-Israel Americans that gathered in Washington, DC, recently in support of Israel. Also be in prayer that the terrible upheavals of anti-Israel – pro Palestine, and even pro-Hamas students on college campuses in this country will soon be a thing of the past. Please pray for Dan and Meg Price as they labor in Israel.
There is an interesting article this month on Word & Work regarding praying on the temple mount.
Hurricane Helene has devasted and destroyed much of the Florida west coast. It was a wide spread path of severe damage, tossing good sized boats many yards from where they had been in the water and taking the lives of some residents. Even towns hundreds of miles away from the intense damage are having flooding from the rains created by Helene. Please be in prayer for those that lost loved ones, and those that have lost everything, and for the first responders, fire personnel, electrical repair folks, and medical folks there to help. It is truly one of nature’s most savage storms.
SCEC Report from Terry Morrison. This is worth repeating.
Southeastern Christian Education Corporation has requests from 25 students this year who will be attending eight different Christian Colleges for total grants of $65,000. Each student will be receiving $2,600 per year. Over the years SCEC has given grants totaling over one millions dollars since the closing of Southeastern Christian College and the formation of SCEC as a non- profit private foundation. SCEC also supports the mission work in the Philippines through a $2,600 annual gift to Church of Christ Worldwide.
Pertinent Info: The annual corporation meeting was held at Cherry St. Church of Christ on the Saturday morning following Fellowship week. It is only $5.00 to become a corporation member and if you are an SCC grad or not, you may support SCEC financially. As you can see above 25 students generates $65,000 this year and if you attended SCC (or if a corporate member) and have a Christian College bound student, that child can fill out a form and be considered for a grant. Website: sceconline.org.
Southeastern Christian Education Corporation was established after Southeastern Christian College in Winchester, KY, closed, in order to use the funds from the sale of the property to the city. The funds are used for grants to eligible students to help cover the cost of a Christian college education. Donations are welcome and accepted and should be sent to SCEC, 476 Sparrow Lane Harrodsburg, KY 40330. A donation to SCEC would be welcomed and certainly be put to good use. Make check out to SCEC.
Southeast Christian College Reunion will be October 5th in the Gym area on campus. Looking for a good crowd and a fun and interesting afternoon. Reunite with old friends. No matter what year(s) you were there, you are invited. Pitch in dinner.
