In this article, we are going to deal with the relationship between slaves and masters. In our world today, we can apply this to employees and employers. We want to deal with how these can live out their faith for Christ, and thus glorify the Lord Jesus.

     In Eph. 6:5-8, all of us must do our work as unto Christ. In each of the 4 verses in our study, the Lord Jesus is featured.

• Verse 5- “as to Christ.”
• Verse 6- “as slaves of Christ.”
• Verse 7- “as to the Lord.”
• Verse 8- “receive this back from the Lord.”

These references by Paul show his attitude toward serving the Lord. All through his ministry, he uplifted Jesus to all he encountered. Paul admonished slaves to obey their earthly masters and realize that Christ is the ultimate Master.

     How might slaves, and in our day, employees glorify Christ by their actions?  Paul mentions at least four ways how they can accomplish it.

• Glorify Christ by working respectfully (Eph. 6:5a) They were be serious and reverent in their service, believing they were living out their faith in the Lord Jesus.
• Glorify Christ by working wholeheartedly (Eph. 6:5b-6). He is saying, “don’t just work when the master or boss is watching, rather give your whole heart to the task at hand.
• Glorify Christ by working willingly (Eph. 6:7). Everyone must have a good attitude. Put everything you have into it. Always give cheerful and glad service.
• Glorify Christ by working expectantly (Eph. 6:8). All believers will appear before the judgement seat of Christ and be rewarded based on present faithfulness (Matt. 16:27; Romans 2:6-11); 2^nd 5:10). We never work our way to heaven, but one we are in Christ, me must be the. best workers we can be. I believe that Matthew 5:16 comes into view.  ^“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
