Added 9/3/2021. Bro. Robert Garrett fell on Sept. 1st and broke his hip. He was to have surgery yesterday. Please be praying for both of them and for their family as they will deal with this situation.
As of today (August 31, 2021) Hurricane Ida hit land in Louisiana and has had extremely high winds and heavy rain. Be in prayer for those that were/are in its path and as you are reading this, for those you have heard have been hit extremely hard.
As of this posting the 5th Sunday Sing date of October 31st at Sellersburg Church of Christ at 6:30 pm is still a go.
Woodland Bible Camp News
Fall Retreat Sept 10 – 12 (Fri 6 pm to Sun 1 pm)
Woodland Bible Camp Senior Citizens Week is on schedule for Sept. 13 – 17. The Theme is: “Between Heaven and Earth”. We hope to see a good number of good friends and enjoy sweet Christian fellowship, singing praises, hearing messages from God’s Word, and enjoying afternoon recreation. All meals included and the food is quite good. All sessions now have assigned speakers and you will miss a wonderful time in the Lord if you do not attend.

Obituaries
Edward John Merten, Jr., 86, of Georgetown, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born on May 11, 1935 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He moved to Georgetown, Indiana when he was twelve years old. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1953.
Edward enlisted in the Army National Guard in his junior year of high school at age 17 and he served 42 years until his retirement in May 1995, obtaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. Edward also served 35 years in the civil service, working for the Indiana Military Department, retiring in 1990.
Edward married his wife, Janice Marie Lankford on June 4, 1955 and remained married for 65 years until her death in May 2020. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. Sr. and Gilbert Stone Merten of Georgetown, Indiana; and his two sisters, Lynetta Roller and Doris Poindexter.
Edward is survived by his son, Mark (Robin) Merten; daughter, Lisa (Wayne) Wilder; daughter, Laura (Jeff) LaDuke; grandchildren, Anna Merten, John (Brianne) Merten, Kelly Merten, Andrew Kasse, Charles Wilder, Nicole (Wes) Crosthwaite, Krista (Joe) McNew and Jessica (Tad) Streepey; and great-grandchildren, Caden Wilder, Cailie Wilder, Jackson Crostwaite, Mason Crosthwaite, Brody Crosthwaite, Emily McNew, Eli McNew, Hayley Goodman, Finley Streepey and Aynsley Streepey.
Edward was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He volunteered his time at Portland Christian School and Woodland Bible Camp. He also served on the Board of Directors for Maple Manor Christian Home, Kings Field Children’s Home and the Southeastern Christian Education Corporation.
Edward was a Deacon at Cherry Street Church of Christ where he also served as the building maintenance director. Edward was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #480 in Georgetown, Indiana. He also volunteered at Portland Christian School in Louisville, chaperoning students on field trips and assisting with building maintenance and other school projects.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane). His Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Edwardsville Cemetery.
William Lawrence Montgomery, 91, was promoted to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Providence Retirement Home. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 204. Lawrence was Owner/Operator of Montgomery Insurance for 30 plus years.
As a member of the Sellersburg Church of Christ, he served as Treasurer, Deacon and Elder for 40 years. He also served on Board of Realtors and Maple Manor Christian Home Adult Division.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Lawrence and Ora Addie, sister, Joyce Smith, step-mother, Bernice Montgomery and two nephews. Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Pauline Montgomery, daughter, Donna Vissing-Pate (Glenn Pate), son, Dan (Kathy) Montgomery, sisters, Dorothy (Eddie) Miller, Phyllis (Earl) Mullins, Pam (Ronald) Hickman, grandchildren, Ashley Vissing (Michael), Kelsey Thornberry (Dustin), Logan Meadows (Kelsey), great-grandchildren, Emmett, Parker, Tripp and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday at Sellersburg Church of Christ with burial to follow at Sellersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 12-8PM at the Garr Funeral Home and anytime after 9AM until the time of service on Monday at the church. The Montgomery family is eternally grateful to the caregivers at Hospice/Amedisys and Diversicare of Providence Indiana.
