CHURCH LEADERS! (David Longest, Chairman) After around thirteen years of serving as chairman, I am announcing my resignation from the church leaders’ group. My last meeting as chair will be the Christmas meeting in December, information of which will be sent in mid to late November. I will still be available to send information out by email if asked. I will also share my email information as needed. I have enjoyed getting to know those who work tirelessly for the Lord. All the Church Leaders who regularly attend the monthly meetings at Cherry St. have greatly appreciated David’s leadership in keeping the meetings going. Blessings to you Bro. David.
MILLENNIAL LINGO (“Gospel Reset, Salvation Made Relevant”)
Did you know that Millennials speak a different language? Millennials are considered those born between approximately (1981 and 1996). For example, generations ago, when one said the word God in the public schools (government schools), most kids and teachers thought of the Creator-God of the Bible. But today, if you say the word God in the public schools, most students and teachers would respond, “Which god are you referring to? The Muslim god? A Hindu god? The Buddhist concept of god? Or a New Age god?’
In previous generations, when you said in Sunday school, “let’s read a Bible story,” most kids anticipated hearing something that happened in history from the Bible. However, when you say “Bible story” today, most kids (and adults) think “fiction” or “fairy tale.” That is because of this “divide” in generational thinking. Many do not see the Bible as authoritative, trustworthy, infallible, or inerrant, largely because they have been indoctrinated by secular-culture and education. So, they simply dismiss Scripture as a “fairy tale.” (Ken Ham – president, CEO, and founder of Answers in Genesis & highly acclaimed ARK encounter)
WOODLAND BIBLE CAMP (David Pound) needs to replace the existing Tabernacle at an estimated cost of $25,000 to $30,000. This is due to structural damage to the floor. Information was presented at the most recent board meeting during Sr. Citizens Week and the majority of the corporation members present endorsed replacement of the building. The new Tabernacle will be built at the same location and will replicate the current design. The Board would be pleased to accept your kind and generous donations by November 1, 2018. All donations can be sent to Joe Overman, Treasurer, Woodland Bible Camp, Inc. 1235 S. 800 W., Lyons, IN 47443
PCS FALL FESTIVAL (WHITE ELEPHANT SALE) was held with cooperating weather on Saturday, October 13, 2018. It brought out many old friends associated with the school and a great day of fellowship was had by all who attended. Preliminary numbers I have received today are that the Alumni brought in just over $8,800. Last year I’m told they made somewhere in the $7,500 – $8,000 range, so this is better. As you have noted, the auctions could have been better. Times and people have changed and we need to figure out what the newer generations want to see and continue to educate them on the White Elephant event. But the total above does not include an antique carousel horse that someone donated but which we are going to auction through an auction house. It’s likely worth $4,000+ and would not have gotten nearly that much at the PCS. Thanks to everyone who participated and who continue to show their support for the school.
