BRO. CLEO  RUSSELLpassed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in Hammond, Lousiana at the age of 91.   He was born February 18, 1927 in rural Roseland.  In 1944 he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Cassin Young.   He was honorably discharged in 1946, almost a year after the war ended.    In 1951 he graduated college with a BA in education. He went on to work for the State of Lousiana as a probation and parole officer.    He became an ordained minister on February 22, 1984 and ministered for the Church of Christ for many years.  During this time, he traveled to other countries including the Philippines and  Africa doing missionary work.  I first became acquainted with Bro. Cleo about 18 years ago when he invited me to preach at the Ponchatoula Church of Christ when he served as minister.  I was the “key-note” speaker on Monday night but never showed up.  I couldn’t find the church.  Needless to say, he never let me forget that but blamed his brother C.B. for giving me bad directions.   His home was always open to guests who attended the crusade, and his wit and sense of humor were drawing cards.   Bro. Dale Ziebarth presided at his celebration of life service reminding everyone that when someone dies in  Christ that we are not there to dwell on his death but to rejoice in his new life with the Lord.

WOODLAND BIBLE CAMPSenior Week started last Sunday as June high winds and torrential rain invaded the camp grounds.    Early Monday morning “our greatest fear happened.  The girl’s bathhouse got damaged.”   At surrounding trees hovering over the  camp came crushing down.    Brock & Bart Borders were there to help put things back together.   Junior week began (6/17) followed by Intermediate Week (6/24)  They were in hopes of having everything back in working condition.   PRAY FOR THE CAMP and THE WILLING WORKERS that camp might not be DISRUPTED too badly.
