The Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project (BHRP) began in 1985 as a program initiated by Hollace & Ila Sherwood in conjunction with the Bryantsville Church of Christ. In 2000 the program was formalized as a 501 c 3 non-profit corporation managed by a local board of directors.
The program mission is to feed hungry people around the world. Our main method of operation is to provide high protein, food grade, whole kernel corn free of charge to Christian missions around the world. To date corn has been distributed to over thirty countries around the world. Corn is cleaned and bagged in 60 pound bags for shipment. In most crop years between 5,000 and 8,000 bags per year have been distributed.
Items of thanksgiving
- • Continued financial support of churches and service organizations in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
- • Opportunity to partner with International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES) to pack 21,000 meals of rice based meals for distribution in Africa.
- • Growing seasons that provide bountiful crops. In 2016 there was corn for over 9,000 bags (720,000 meals) of nutrition to hungry people in 7 countries.
- • Volunteers to bag corn and load trucks when needed
- • Close corporation with Rosehill Farms for good cropland to grow corn
Items for prayer
- • Continued successful growing seasons in the future
- • Volunteers to help with bagging and loading
- • In many countries that need food desperately, the governments are using food as a political weapon to control people. Pray that barriers to importing food will come down and food of all types is allowed to reach needy people.
- • The costs of transportation continue to rise. Many missions can no longer afford the costs of shipping. Pray that God will put on the hearts of foundations, corporations and individuals involved in transportation to provide funds or donated services for distribution.
