The Louisville area annual Ladies Retreat was held on September 26, 27 at Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center in Crestwood, KY. Our theme this year was ‘Light in a Culture of Darkness’.
Sandra Naugle spoke on the ‘Culture of Darkness’ in our country and of the many evils that confront every Christian as we strive to walk with God. Two of the verses she used reveal why we have so much darkness: Job 24:13: Wicked people rebel against the light. They refuse to acknowledge its ways or stay in its paths. Job 34: 22: There is no darkness dark enough to hide a sinner from God.
Rebecca Parr spoke on ‘Being a Spiritual Light’. She presented many practical ways we can demonstrate the Light and Love of Jesus as we walk each day in a dark world.
Melanie Mitchell and Angela Zimmerman spoke on Sharing the Light. We were given examples of how we can use Bible stories, linked to a true story from our own lives, to enlighten lost souls to the truth of God’s Word.
Nancy Stone, of Memphis, IN, brought the retreat to a close with her excellent message on ‘Our Hope in the Light’. Her story recounted the many troubles that befell her family in a short period of time and that holding on to their Hope in Jesus was the reason they were able to endure.
The fellowship was rich and enjoyable, the Friday night pitch-in dinner held plenty of choices for your plate, and the homemade Chicken Noodle Soup (made by one of our committee members) on Saturday was a big hit and was delicious.
The Teens enjoyed lessons from Jennifer Worley, Anna and Sarah Torkelson. These ladies came from Peru, IN, to attend and their lessons were enjoyed and were appropriate for the teens in attendance. The Teens presented a skit about ‘Light’ for the ladies to enjoy.
This was the 24th annual Ladies Retreat . The setting for the Camp is lovely and several of our ladies were seen enjoying a walk after lunch.
Current Retreat committee members are: Joyce Dickson, Dana Druin, Libbie McMahan, Melanie Mitchell, Sandra Naugle, Carol Weber, and Ruth Wilson. All are from the Louisville, Southern Indiana area.
Planning for the Retreat always begins with much prayer and each meeting is opened with prayer that God will lead us to the theme and lead women and teens to attend. God never fails to come through for us. Every year one of the committee members is heard to say, ‘This was our best Retreat ever!” Sounds like it just gets better every year!
We encourage women and teens in our area to attend and receive the blessing that is received by all in this short time of drawing away from our everyday lives and putting our hearts and minds in gear to hear God’s word in a way that is helpful for our every day living.
