Benefits are something that that the Lord has for us now! Spiritual benefits are the most precious. Being a Christian brings benefits, not only for eternity, but in the here and now. Christianity is a here and now religion. We don’t have to wait till eternity to enjoy what the Lord has in store for us for us.

The Apostle Paul, in Col. 1:20-23, contrasted their lives before they came to the Lord with the life in the Lord Jesus. He reminds them and us that we were reconciled because of our faith and obedience to Christ. He tells us that Jesus will one day “present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach..” Is that automatic or must we do something on our part? In Col. 1:23 we have the word “if;” many times in the Word we might be able to substitute the word “since.”

Either way, Christians are not presented by the Lord unless they are dressed in His righteousness. Paul says we must be “grounded and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the Gospel…” What this says to me is that we must be found active in serving Christ; we must ever be “growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” ( 2 Peter 3;18)

We enjoy more of the benefits of the Christian life as we draw nearer to the Lord Jesus. We must know why we are a Christian; we must know why we believe and practice what we do. We must be confident in our faith. We are saved now! We must know and believe this truth.

If we are willing to study God’s Word and apply the teachings to our daily walk, we will not only grow ourselves but we will be able to help others find the marvelous light of the Gospel.
