Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. (1 Peter 1:1-2)
Dear Friends,
As a Christian, do you see yourself as a pilgrim? No? How about as an alien or exile? Those are the terms that other translations use for the same word. The New International Version (NIV) uses the phrase “strangers in the world.” In his first letter, Peter teaches that as Christians, we need to be different. In some ways he says that others may even find us odd for God.
We are to be “out of this world” people. What that means is that we are called to live conventional lives in this world; while unconventionally not belong to it. But how is that done? During the course of this summer, we will be finding that out through a sermon series from the book of First Peter. It is entitled, “Odd for God: Living an Out of this World Life.” (See below for a schedule of the entire series) Come join us each Sunday for worship and be encouraged to live an out of this world life.
Hope to see you at worship,
Bro. Mike Abbott
