August 23, 2014, saw approximately 100 KBC / SCC alumni gather on the campus for a Reunion. We met in the library building and after some rearranging of tables (thanks to those who carried tables / chairs from the basement to the main floor) most of us sat on the main floor and enjoyed the pitch-in lunch. The abundant amount of food was in the basement, but most were able to navigate between the food and the seating. After a time of eating and fellowship, Cecil Garrett got up to tell several cute and/or interesting stories about life on the campus. Several others added comments.

The Southeastern Christian Education Corporation was founded in 1983 as a non-profit. Terry Morrison gave a report on the SCEC finances. From 1983 to the present $591,275 in grants and scholarships have been awarded to young people who were/are attending Christian colleges. Current assets of SCEC are now $306,000.   We thank SCEC for funding the rental of the library for our event. The corporation is a non-profit and if you would like to donate toward the worthy goal of helping young people attend a Christian College, you may send a tax-deductable donation to SCEC, 476 Sparrow Ln. Harrodsburg, KY 40330. You will receive a letter of acknowledgement for your gift.

Larry Miles was instrumental in starting a Southeastern Christian College Facebook page. Many who attended had learned of the reunion on that FB page. You may join the group if you are on Facebook by doing a ‘friend request’.

We gathered for ‘decade’ photos in an empty room in the library. There were a good number of 1950 attendees in that photo. There was also one from the 1940 decade. We then moved the picture taking to the front steps of the library, where the 1960 and the 1970 ‘decade’ photos were taken. Some alumni were in more than one decade picture. Pictures are posted on the SCC FB page. There were also several who had taught at SCC, some of whom had also been students.

Some of us toured the gym, which has been totally renovated and an addition added on which houses a lovely Natatorium. There is a work-out room and space for parties and other gatherings. The gym now has a walking track. Any of the facilities can be utilized by buying a yearly pass or paying by the day. There was one birthday party going on while we were touring the facility and many enjoying the swimming area. The Campus Park is owned by the City of Winchester Parks Department. After the school closed, the campus was purchased by an individual, who later gave it to the city. It was so gratifying to see that it is being utilized for the community in such a nice way.

Thanks to all who attended the Reunion and thanks to those who planned it and who helped clean up when it was over. And thanks to the helpful young man, named Jeff, who was with the Parks Department.  We are sorry if you were unable to attend. You missed a very enjoyable gathering.
