The word “wait” appears 144 times in the Bible (NKJV). For example, “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14).
Why is waiting on the Lord so hard? Because we want what we want and we want it now! We forget that even God waits. “God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built” (1 Peter 3:20).
Patience, therefore, is a godly virtue. And it pays huge dividends. “In your patience you shall win your souls” (Luke 21:19 ASV).
Wow! I am learning to wait and be patient in my recovery from surgery. Ever wonder why they call it “the waiting room” in hospitals or doctor’s offices? Because we are patients!
And it takes patience to be in God’s waiting room. Take time to wait, especially waiting on the Lord. “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:32).
