At this season of the year we are focused on the birth of Jesus.  Certain details concerning this event are related to us by Matthew and Luke. The book of Mark gives us a picture of Jesus’ ministry.  The first chapter of the book of John describes Jesus in many ways:

The Word 1:1   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The Life 1:4   In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

The Light 1:7  This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.

The Son 1:18  No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

The Lamb 1:29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

The Messiah 1:41  He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the]Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).

The King 1:49   Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

The Son of Man 1:51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter] you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

Further in the book of John Jesus describes himself as:

The Bread of life 6:35  And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

The Light of the world 8:12   Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

The “I Am” 8:58  Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

The Good Shepherd 10:11  “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

The Resurrection and the Life 11:25  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

The Way, the Truth and the Life 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The True Vine 15:1  “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.

Each of these titles deserves a study of its own.  Why not follow up on these and learn more of who Jesus really is – not just a baby in a manger!
