Keeping in Step with the Spirit One fruit of the Spirit is Self Control

by Jackie Gill

      1Thess.5:6-7 “ . . ..  let us be alert and self-controlled”

. . . since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet”

2 Pet. 1:5-6 “. . .  Make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge and to knowledge, self-control, , , , , “.

This being the last of the “fruit of the Spirit” in Gal. 5 and possibly the most difficult to attain and maintain.

Gal. 5:16. “ . .  Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.”

2 Pet. 1:3-4. “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness . . . . . He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
