A Study of Heaven Continued

by Jim Rowe

(Session 2)

7) Is there a Difference in the abode of the dead “before” and “after” Jesus’ Resurrection?

Sheol/Hades (the grave) before the resurrection of Jesus:

  Sheol/Hades after Jesus’ Resurrection:

  1. a) Jesus apparently went to Sheol/Hades according to Ephesians 4:8–10 and 1 Peter 3:18–20 and, from there, took the believers with Him to heaven.

8) What happens after death? What is the future destination of our souls/spirits after this life?

9) What Kinds of Bodies will we have in heaven?

10) The New Testament identifies that there are “rewards” in Heaven

We return with Him to Heaven in our glorified bodies where we are judged for our works to                                determine our degrees of rewards.

  1. Matthew 5:12 (NKJV) 12Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
  2. Matthew 6:20 (NKJV) 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
  3. Luke 6:23 (NKJV) 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
  4. 2 Corinthians 5:9-11 (ASV) 9 Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him. 10 For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 11 Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.

When this judgment is completed, we participate in a glorious wedding feast to celebrate the union of Jesus and His Bride, the Church

The Redeemed are going to dwell forever in new bodies on a new earth in a New Jerusalem in the presence of Almighty God and His Son, Jesus. Heaven will come to earth!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
