Thoughts From Ephesians Thought # 38 Imitate God Ephesians 5:1-17 Intro

by Larry Miles

Since  we are now “in Christ,” we must act like it. We  must imitate the  Lord Jesus. He is our great example.”imitate me, as I also imitate Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1; cf. 1 Cor. 4:16; Phil. 3:17; 1 Thess. 1:6; 2 Thess: 3;7-9).

Paul tells congregations  to imitate other congregations  (1 Thess. 2:14). It is only in Ephesians that we are  told “to imitate God.”

Paul paints a glorious picture of the Father in Ephesians (1:3, 17; 3:14-15; 4:6)  Paul tells us how  we can live a holy life. We must seek to take on the  character of God. Paul answers  how we should imitate God with  three “walks.”He urges us to:

  1. Walk in love (Eph. 5:2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
  2. Walk in light (Eph. 5:8) For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
  3. Walk in wisdom (Eph. 5:15) 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
