He Lives!
Written:1933

(From A Hymn a Day by Graham McKay)

Words and Music: Alfred H. Ackley 1887-1960

“Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who
was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place
where they laid Him.”

Mark 16:6

Alfred Ackley was a Presbyterian minister in California. A young Jewish student was attending the
evangelistic meetings and engaging in Bible talks with this preacher. The student had a really big question. “Why should I worship a dead Jew?” Also, about that time on Easter Sunday, Ackley heard a preacher on the radio say, “It really does not make any difference to me if Christ be risen or not. As far as I am concerned, His body could be as dust in some Palestinian tomb. The main thing is His truth goes marching on!”

Now this really made Alfred Ackley mad. His answer to the student was, “He lives! I tell you, He is not dead, but lives here and now! Jesus Christ is more alive today than ever before. I can prove it by my own experience, as well as the testimony of countless thousands.”

His wife said, “You better put that in a song.” He did and called it “He Lives.”

Prayer Focus: Be confident for we serve a risen Savior who always lives to make intercession for us.

                   HE LIVES!

Verse 1:

I serve a risen Savior.   He’s in the world today.
I know that He is living, whatever men may say.
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer;
And just the time I need Him He’s always near.

        Chorus:

        He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
        He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
        He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
        You ask me how I know He lives?
        He lives within my heart.

Verse 2:

In all the world around me I see His loving care,
And though my heart grows weary, I never will despair;
I know that He is leading through all the stormy blast;
The day of His appearing will come at last.

Verse 3:

Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, lift up your voice and sing
Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King!
The Hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who find,
None other is so loving, so good and kind.

If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
