The Ladies Annual Fall Retreat will be held this year on Oct. 27/28 at Kavanaugh Life Enrichment Center in Crestwood, KY. The theme this year is The Joy of the Lord. Speakers are Karen Johnson, Tammy Miller, and Joy Garrett. Friday night is an interactive time that will be enjoyed by all. There is no special teen program this year due to lack of attendees and a financial constraint. But we welcome teens to come and enjoy this event. For more information please contact Sandra Naugle at 812-246-2918 or 502-494-4185 or email to sknaugle@gmail.com.
Portland Christian School is pleased to announce the sale of our former school home at 2500 Portland Avenue to Josie Shilling-Crowe and her partners in MH Capital Holding. The facility will be called The Meredith House, in honor of Joe Meredith, former PCS parent and long-time beloved basketball coach, and life-long resident of the Portland neighborhood, who passed away in 2016. The Meredith Center will be home to a daycare, a feeding program, AAU sports, after-school programs and a charter school. We are thrilled that this property, which was the home of PCS beginning in 1924, will continue to be used to serve the Portland neighborhood.
The Portland Avenue Church of Christ continues to own and worship in their building, and they are in agreement with the proposed uses of the school building.
With gratefulness to God,
Jodell Seay
PCS Executive Director

JENNINGS CHURCH OF CHRIST (Louisiana) In November of 1917, a group of believers met to worship and organize a congregation of the Church of Christ. The group met at the building on the corner of Fourth and State Streets in Jennings, Louisiana until its group outgrew the building and moved in 1980 to 1812 North Cutting Avenue.
The first Sunday in November has become “Homecoming Sunday,” and this year, special plans are being made to celebrate those 100 years. Everyone who has worshiped here and/or ministered here is invited to come and praise God together with us at this special time. Those who cannot attend might send letters, pictures, or memorabilia for display to: Church of Christ Century Celebration, 1812 North Cutting Avenue, Jennings, LA, 70546.
This is from the December 1917 Word and Work– “And this encouraging report from W. J. Johnson of the Louisiana field: “Brother Hebert writes that seven made the good confession at Jennings on the first Lord’s Day in November.” (Larry Miles)
