News and Notes

Prayer Request For Don McGee— this is an update that Don sent Bennie Hill and requested we put in News and Notes–Please keep Don in prayer–

“Health issues have put a damper on my traveling as CSM’s evangelist.  Nothing life threatening, but limiting just the same.  It has to do with the proton therapy radiation I received some years ago for prostate cancer.  I am not plagued with what might be called the “normal problems” associated with such treatment so things could be worse.  The root of all this goes back to my time in Vietnam when the U.S. Government used dioxin as a defoliant.

While understanding this, the board decided that CSM will continue its work as a Bible prophecy ministry, but that I should focus on writing and teaching through CDs.  I am pleased with their decision, and by God’s grace that is what we shall do.  Local work is not entirely out of the question so my plans are to do that, also.

Our income will be affected so some changes will be made in order to cut costs, but at this point I don’t know everything that effort will include.  We will be making some changes regarding the publishing of the CSM Newsletter, and you will be kept up to speed on what that will mean.

Of course, if the Lord returned for us today all this would be moot.  Thank God for the Blessed Hope!”

This year’s LADIES INSPIRATION DAY was held Saturday, April 2nd, at the LaGrange Church of Christ.  It was hosted by the East Louisville Churches of Christ and well attended by women from all over Kentucky and parts of Indiana.   The day’s theme was Psalm 51:10, “Created in me a clean heart o God; and renew a right spirit within me.”  The speakers were Shirley Smith and Barbara Hockenbury (who filled in for Sheila Tapp).  Sandra Naugle shared her upcoming mission trip to the Ukraine, asking for prayer. The ladies also enjoyed a skit depicting the spiritual condition of many of our hearts.   The day was emceed by Mindy Shelton and Vicky Schuler led the singing.  The day ended with a delicious noon meal provided by the churches and served by the men!  What a surprising ending to a delightful, spirit filled morning!

REVIVAL:  LaGrange Church of Christ – 1910 Jericho Rd., LaGrange, Kentucky April 7th – 9th.  Speaker will be Aaron Davis each night at 7:00 p.m.  There will be a light Dinner served at 6:00 p.m. each night.   Contact Wayman Thompson, minister for more details at (502) 758-0186.

The 24th Annual Christian Crusade for Christ was held March 27-31 at the Oak Grove Christ in Independence, Louisiana.  The speakers were Bro. Joe Stone, Bro. Sonny Childs, Bro. David Broussard, Bro. Robert Johnson and Bro. Bennie Hill.  This year’s theme was “The Reality of Spirituality.”   What a time of refreshment was had  by each in attendance as our spiritual eyes were opened to the reality of what so many do not see.  Unfortunately what we cannot see is what is real and last for eternity. And what we see and spend our time and energy on is often unrighteousness and is rewarded with death.

Jesus taught that the kingdom of God  must be received as a little child. We were shown how children are impetuous, intrigued, and innocent. Through Scripture we saw how these qualities are necessary for us to live in GRACE.  Unfortunately many of us, because of our legalism, fears, competitive spirit, and pride, are living lives without GRACE. We got to see through Scripture how we should asked to be filled with spiritual understanding.  And we also saw that since we have His Spirit we have the mind of Christ which gives us spiritual understanding. Through His Word we also saw the riches of life with grace. With His grace we are taught how to live, we understand what God’s will is, we exchange our sins for a right standing with God, and we have fixed our hope on His soon return.  The week ended with an examination of the end results of keeping GRACE.  According to 1 Corinthians 15 we will have new physical bodies for eternity. These bodies will be recognizable, real, new, indestructible, glorious, powerful, changed, immortal and will inherit the kingdom of God. What a sweet time of refreshing these lessons reconfirmed our hope and victory in the GRACE of God through Jesus Christ.

The crusade was well attended and the fellowship was inspiring. Each evening a meal was set before us as the Louisiana hospitality was lavished on us all.  As our spirits and souls feasted on the Word of God and our bodies feasted on the Jambalaya, smoked turkey, and fried catfish.   What a fulfilling time in the Lord!  Thanks to all who took part and attended.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
