The Secret of Knowing The Peace of God

by Larry Miles

Christians should be seeking the peace of God at all times. We live in a world that is not peaceful without Christ. The only real peace will happen when the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus returns for us.

But what about in the here and now? Can we achieve peace? It all depends on what kind of peace we are searching for. If it is world peace, then we may not see much of that in our lives. But if it is spiritual peace, we can enjoy that in abundance.

The Lord Himself said that He came to give us the abundant life. We can rejoice that because of His love for us which was manifested in His coming to this sin-cursed world and dying for us that we might have life. His resurrection gives us the assurance that if we are faithful we one day will see the Lord. We shall see Him as He is. (I John 3:2)

We live in a world that is full of anxiety. Even Christians experience this feeling. But we are different from the world in that we have a Savior who loves us and cares for us. The Apostle Peter says to “cast your cares (anxieties) upon Him, for He cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7)

We are called to live in the world but not be of the world (I John 2:15-17) so how do we enjoy and live in the peace of God?

Our Lord told us to put Him first in all areas (Matt. 6:30). If we do this, he has promised in the Great Commission to “be with us always.”

According to Philippians 4:4-7 we must live in the joy of the Lord. If we will seek His will in prayer, with thanksgiving, He will give us “the peace which surpasses all understanding…”

We must practice mind renewal in a mindless society (Rom. 12:1-2); we must believe that He can “guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” So, my fellow believer, make your mind up to want everything the Lord has for you and seek true peace that only the Prince of Peace can and does bring His people.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
